Custom Pokémon

Cobblemon can load extra species and variants from data and resource packs. This page is a short map of what each part does so you can start a pack without hunting through folders.

Creating your Pokémon

A custom species needs an identifier (for example mypack:rockling), stats, types, and a matching model in a resource pack. Keep the same name in every file so Cobblemon can wire them together.

Models

Models are usually Bedrock-style geometry in your resource pack. Export a clean model, then point the species at that file. Test in-game early so scale and hitbox feel right.

Animation

Idle, walk, faint, and sleep animations make the mob feel alive. Name clips clearly and keep bone names the same as the model. If a pose looks frozen, the poser is probably not calling that animation.

Organizing your files

Split data (species, spawns, moves) from assets (models, textures, sounds, lang). Mirror Minecraft pack layout: data/namespace/... and assets/namespace/....

Posers

A poser tells Cobblemon which animations to play in battle, in the world, and in the summary screen. One poser can be reused by several similar species.

Resolvers

Resolvers pick which model and texture to use (normal, shiny, gender, form). If the wrong skin appears, check the resolver order before editing the model again.

Adding your Pokémon

Enable the datapack and resource pack together, then restart Minecraft. If the species is missing, look at the log for a bad JSON path. If it loads but is invisible, the resolver or texture path is usually wrong.

Language files

Add display names in assets/namespace/lang/en_us.json (and other languages you support). Without a lang entry the game shows the raw id.

Spawning

Spawn files control biomes, times, and rarity. Start with a common biome you can find quickly, then tighten the rules. Too-broad spawns will flood the world.

Variants

Variants are extra looks or forms of an existing species. Reuse the species file where you can and only swap resolver/texture entries for the new look.
